"Humanism is a democratic and ethical life stance, which affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. It stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethic based on human and other natural values in the spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities."
--International Humanist and Ethical Union
Mission Statement
The mission of Hope Humanist Church is to enhance the lives of it's members - and hopefully the world at large - through the adoption of Humanist ideals and thought, and through the practical application of those ideals in our daily lives. We believe that the indomitable spirit, unfettered creativity and ingenuity, and incredible capacity for love and compassion that all humans are capable of is the true source of mankind’s salvation, and we strive to pursue reasonable and peaceful solutions to the problems that plague humankind.
The mission of Hope Humanist Ministry is to carry out the practical application of our ideals in a way that benefits humankind as a whole. This will include various projects such as literacy programs; recycling programs; providing advocacy and assistance to the poor, abused, or victims of disaster; and advocating for peaceful, reasonable solutions to world problems.
We believe we can show the world a better way – a way of peace, acceptance, cooperation, and mutual benefit that may well be the only hope for the survival of humanity and our planet.
Action Statement:
If each of us commits to working together, sharing and conserving resources, resolving conflicts peacefully, and finding common ground – then there is hope for the future of mankind. Hope Humanists set the example for others in everything they do, from conserving resources and helping to save the earth that sustains us through recycling and energy-efficient living, to exhibiting reason, acceptance, integrity, generosity, cooperation, and an unending search for new knowledge and new understanding in our daily encounters with others.
Hope Humanist Ministry’s mission and charter is based on the principles of Humanism as outlined in the Humanist Manifesto II, and complemented in large part by the provisions of The Earth Charter. It is recommended that anyone who is considering joining HHM read these documents in full, and determine if they are able to fully commit to upholding the ideals and goals outlined in these two important works.
